Best Practices to Sell Quickly and Make the Most Money

So you’ve decided to sell your car yourself…….for any number of reasons.   Good decision.

Now, you want it gone quick for top dollar.  Let’s make that happen.

We’ll break down the few steps that we recommend to get the quickest sale and top dollar for your used car….but first, you are at the right spot.  Thanks for working with us.  Wyndscreen is the best platform to buy and sell used vehicles.  It’s nationwide, its not full of scammers and spammers, all the ads have the info you need to compare, and you don’t need any type of social media account or login.   The price is right, too.

So, lets get that car (or truck or suv or whatever) sold:

Pictures

Yes, your ad needs pictures (2 are required for a wyndscreen ad)….so no more ads with no pictures, like some other ‘List sites.

Ads with no pictures scream ‘scam’ and most won’t even look at them.

Like they say, pictures are worth a thousand words.   Good pictures and pictures showing interesting features and/or problem areas are worth a million words and will save everyone’s time.   And time is money.

So, lets get some good pictures.  Here we go:

 1. Get your car the cleanest you can…..a combination of washing, vacuuming, removing trash and cords, and work related items will help show the true condition….even if your car has a few issues, there is a buyer for it.  Just be honest.

2. Keep the sun behind you and try to avoid background clutter

3. Most use their phone for pictures now, so make sure the entire car is in the frame and landscape mode is best.   Get as close as you can while still keeping the entire car in the frame.   Too often people take pictures from 30 feet away….that screams hidden issues.   The wyndscreen pic uploader does the best it can to make the pictures work, but it can’t solve everything or recreate the car.

4. Make sure to include pics of any interesting features or problem areas.   This will help with wasted time….potential buyers don’t like surprises.

5. Make sure to include pics of the interior as well, especially the driver seat.    No interior pics screams hidden issues.

6. Choose the most attractive angle as the main picture (picture 1).    Usually a nice 3/4 front view is what most choose to showcase, but your car might be different!

7. Try to avoid using screenshots or other low resolution photos.   Best foot forward!

8. And no, you don’t need to cover your license plate when taking pictures.   No one can do anything with your license plate number…..no more than they can do seeing you drive down the road.

Make it stand out

A clean, clear, 3/4 front shot helps tell the whole story!

Year/Make/Model/Trim

With wyndscreen, you have to include the vehicles year, make, model and trim.   This helps keep all ads uniform and streamlines searches.   Make sure that the info you choose is accurate so the most interested parties will find your car quick.  There are other options to choose when listing your car or truck, so take a few extra seconds to make sure all the info is accurate….again, to save everyone’s time.

Bad idea: “car for sale” as a title

Wyndscreen will not allow that.    A title that vague is not inviting.

If you don’t see your trim listed, you can choose ‘my trim isn’t listed’…which is fine.   However we do ask that you reach out to us via email so we can add it.

How to price it

There is a saying….’something is only worth what someone else will pay’

And that’s true, so if you want your vehicle sold quick, you need to take a few minutes to research a proper starting point asking price.    Don’t want to price it too low either….the whole point of selling yourself is to make a few extra bucks.

JD Power

 KBB

Are both good resources for common modern used cars…but be careful….those sites like to suck you into a ‘cash offer’…but they work with dealers….it’s the same as a trade in.    If you have an oddball item or something rare, then price it at a level you’d be comfortable selling it at. (how much do you have in it?!)   Don’t be afraid to start a bit high.  Regardless, if it doesn’t get much attention after a few days, lowering the price just a bit may help.

You never know who is watching on the other end.

The vehicle will sell when the asking price meets market demand.

Add confidence and certainty to the transaction

With wyndscreen, you can add as much extra info as you’d like…..so don’t leave out important things such as recent maintenance, completed recalls, modifications, or interesting features. Let the buyers know if you have a carfax or autocheck or similar.

That gives a potential buyer the warm and fuzzys.   A good thing!

No one wants to lay out thousands more dollars the day after buying a car on deferred maintenance.

Make sure to let the buyer know if you have the title in hand or if the vehicle will require a payoff.   Requiring a loan payoff is one of the main reasons that owners just ‘let someone else deal with it’….aka trade it in.   A loan payoff to get the title is not complicated, especially now with every bank and finance company being interconnected.   All it means is that you’ll need to let your bank or finance company know what is going on and they’ll make it seamless for you.  They will get the info and signatures they need from you and the buyer and go from there.  It’s legally binding and the title usually arrives in a day.  No sweat.   Sell it yourself.

Often it’s a good idea to print out 2 copies of a bill of sale (free templates can be found online easily…or just write one up on a blank sheet of paper) and both the seller and buyer include names, the vehicle being sold, phone numbers, selling price, signatures and date to help clear up any confusion with later title, registration, and insurance processing.   Some states require a Bill of Sale to refund pro-rated license plate/property taxes/road taxes.

Communication is key

Wyndscreen offers a unique communication platform where only vetted and registered buyers can contact the sellers to minimize scam calls, texts, and emails.   Communicating on wyndscreen will avoid clumsy email relays and will allow the seller to only communicate with the most serious buyers.   However if you do want to include your phone number on the ad, you are free to do so!   We still work diligently behind the scenes to keep the site scam and spam free.  Finally, when its time to meet to show the car, it’s a good idea to meet at a neutral location where you feel comfortable meeting a stranger.  Often people meet at a bank so money transactions and any notary needs can be handled at one spot.   To go the extra mile, check with your local police department as many stations offer protected meeting spots.   Can’t be too careful!

The goal here is to sell your good used car for the most money….and not basically give it away to a dealer via a trade in or other service.    Selling yourself isn’t that difficult if you follow a few basic steps.   Thousands do it everyday!  It is worth it!

The goal is to make you happy!
